When should you choose raster engraving?

You generally choose raster engraving when you want to fill areas, apply texture, or engrave photo-like details. The laser moves across the surface line by line, similar to how a printer builds an image. As a result, raster engraving is often suitable for logos with filled sections, illustrations, patterns, and highly detailed images.

Instead, opt for line engraving more often if you want crisp lines or contours, need a thin marking, or are creating a technical outline. Neither method is always better: the best choice depends on your design, the material, and the settings of your own machine.

Pay extra attention to surface preparation when raster engraving. Especially with materials where smoke or smudge marks can become visible, protective film for laser use can help keep the surface cleaner. The final result always remains dependent on the material variant, machine, focus, ventilation, and settings.
