Which materials do you use for product presentations?

Which materials should you use for product presentations?

For product presentations, materials are usually chosen that look neat, stay flat, and can be processed predictably on your own laser cutter. In practice, these are often:

  • Acrylic for a sleek, modern look
  • MDF and wood for a warmer, natural appearance
  • Cardboard or paper products for temporary presentations, prototypes, or lightweight displays

Which choice is best?

  • Choose acrylic if transparency, color, neat edges, or a modern display look are important. Check out the Acrylic sheets collection for this.
  • Choose MDF, birch plywood, or linden plywood if you're looking for more material feel, a neutral base, or an artisanal appearance. See MDF and wooden boards.
  • Choose cardboard, paper, or hardboard mainly for tests, prototypes, or short-term use.

When making your choice, also pay attention to:

  • thickness and stiffness of standing or load-bearing parts
  • engraving and cutting appearance, especially for visible parts
  • protective film and surface protection during processing
  • differences between cast and extruded acrylic if the final finish is important; also see the Acrylic Buyer's Guide

Always use materials that are clearly designated as laser-safe and test the result on your own machine, as the cut edge, engraving, and surface partly depend on your settings, airflow, and protective film. You can read more about this in the Laser-Safe Materials Guide.
