Collection: Plywood - by color

Plywood sheets for laser cutting

In this collection, you will find plywood sheets for your own laser cutting and engraving projects. Choose from Poplar plywood, Basswood plywood, Birch plywood, Birch aircraft-grade plywood, Bamboo Caramel Sidepressed, and Okoume plywood. Laser Cut Supply provides the sheet material; this collection is not a laser cutting service.

What is the difference between triplex and multiplex plywood?

Triplex consists of three cross-glued veneer layers. Multiplex is the broader collective term for panels with three or more veneer layers. In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably. Therefore, pay close attention to the product name, wood species, layer structure, and available thickness. Compared to MDF and fiberboard, plywood has a visible wood grain and veneer structure.

Which type of wood suits your project?

Poplar plywood is lightweight and practical for larger shapes or parts where weight is a factor. Basswood plywood has a fine, calm grain and a light natural color. Birch plywood has a smooth surface and feels sturdier. Birch aircraft-grade plywood is the thinnest choice in this collection and is suited for refined parts and scale models. Bamboo Caramel Sidepressed has a warm caramel color and a distinct grain. Okoume plywood has a darker wood appearance and waterproof gluing; assess per application whether the cut edge and any post-processing fit the desired end result.

Thicknesses in the collection

Available thicknesses vary by product. For instance, you can choose a thin 3-ply sheet for delicate parts or a thicker multiplex board when more body is needed:

If you are looking for 2 mm plywood, start with Birch aircraft-grade plywood. For a 3 mm plywood sheet, you can compare Basswood or Birch. Available sizes and stock levels are listed on the product pages.

Scale models, prototypes, signage, and education

For scale models and model making, thin aircraft-grade plywood, lightweight poplar plywood, and fine basswood plywood are logical points of comparison. In prototyping and product development, deciding between weight, layer structure, and thickness helps to quickly create a test model. For signage and displays, the visible wood appearance is key, in addition to sturdiness. Schools, workshops, and fab labs can compare further by project type and usage via education and makerspaces.

Direct ordering

First, determine whether you are primarily looking for something thin, lightweight, fine-grained, sturdy to the touch, darker, or warm in color. Then select the product and adjust the thickness and size. If you want to compare wooden sheets with MDF, hardboard, or other wood-like materials first, start at Wood and MDF. Frequently asked questions

Is triplex the same as multiplex?
Triplex has three veneer layers. Multiplex is the broader name for sheets with three or more layers. Check the wood species, structure, and thickness for each product.

Which plywood is available in 2 mm?
Birch aircraft-grade plywood is available in 1 and 2 mm.

Which plywood is available in 3 mm?
Basswood plywood and Birch plywood are both available in 3 mm.

Which sheet should I choose for a scale model?
Compare thin Birch aircraft-grade plywood with lightweight Poplar plywood and fine Basswood plywood. The best choice depends on scale, detail, weight, and the desired look.

Can I order laser cutting services here?
No. Laser Cut Supply sells plywood sheets that you can use for your own laser cutting and engraving projects.
